Barry Cook and his artwork
Barry was born in Henley on Thames.
He has lived in Todmorden, West Yorkshire for the
past 38 years where he has his studio.
Barry trained at
Berkshire College of Art and Stourbridge College of Art during
the 1970s.
He has been interested in art all of his life. As
a child he drew and painted animals and he wanted to be a
wildlife illustrator.
At Art College Barry worked in a
variety of styles and experimented with using different media
and techniques including printmaking,
photography,
performance and installation work.
Since 1990 Barry has
painted, producing bold, colourful and imaginative paintings -
A5 to A1 in size, using pencil, watercolour, gouache, ink,
plus occasionally using collage and oil pastel.
Barry also works in sculpture and
photography.
Barry
Cook's work is inspired by his interest in the natural world,
folklore, stories and music.
His paintings also contain
subtle social and political comment.
Barry is married to
the artist and printmaker Shelley Burgoyne. www.shelleyburgoyne.co.uk
Barry has more than 300 paintings in private
collections in the UK.
Barry has
exhibited over many years.
